Exercice: Toned Space

Toned Space

The toned space exercise was to practice drawing in negative space. On a blank piece of paper, draw a grid, which was the same size as the grid in the original chair picture, and then use the edge of a pencil to shade in the grids, ie., to create a toned page. I used a piece of charcol and then polished the page with a blending tool. Next using the grid as a guide I drew a copy of the chair on the toned page. Then used and eraser to remove the tone, leaving a negative version of the chair.
