Straight - Diagonal - Curved Lines
This class exercise explored using lines: using straight and curved to create different designs. All together there were four exercises. We were given a sheet of black paper. For each exerice we cut cut 1 to 10 lines of various thicknesses and lenghts, and then glue them onto a sheet of paper to create an interesting design. Each exercise was supposed to occur inside of a box framing the design.
Exercize 1: In this exercise I created a design by arranging the lines vertically or horizontally. As I was putting this together I was thinking of a cliff. Outside of the frame is a small block full of mischief, as he has just pushed another block over the edge, which is tumbling as it falls.
Exercise 2: This exercise was similar to 1, except the task was to use only diagonal lines. Again, most blocks have arranged themselves in the middle or lower right. But the one full of mischief has decided to balance everything by hanging out on the upper left.
Exercise 3: This exercise was to use 1 to 10 curved pieces of paper. I chose to make a single coil and glue it to both sides of my journal so that it would uncoil when the pages are opened.
Exercise 4: The exercise was to create a composition using the three previous forms, since one of our vocabulary words for the week was abstract, I decided to create an abstract face.
