Greyscale
The first part of this exercise was to create a greyscale gradient. Using 9 boxes, create a gradient of greys from white to black. Each box contains 3 circles: one white, one grey (50%) one black. The second part of the exercise was to pick a picture. I chose a Monet, title unknown. I chose this picture because it was already rich in shadows and the brush strokes were not complicated. Meaning, I cannot paint, so I chose something I thought would be simple. This was a xerox copy so the surface was treated modge podge and then also using modge podge, glued onto a stiffer piece of paper. I divided the picture in half and painted the right half with acrylic paint, using ivory black, titanium white and mixing the two to create different shades of grey. I was trying to match the tonal qualities of the orginal.
