As the saying goes: “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one.” I like to experiment in many creative forms, professionally as a software engineer and for fun I have experimented with Photography, Pottery, Writing (prose and poetry). My current big experiment is Printmaking. I am the owner of D.M. Penny Press, a printmaking studio in Manchester NH. The studio has been in operation since 2015 and I do offer limited memberships for experienced prinkmakers looking for access to a press and other equipment. If interested see the membership info on the web page.
This is second of 3 prints that just a series of lines cut into a sheet of soft linoleum. I was trying to achieve the effect with a minimal number of lines. In this case, water at night where just the edges of ripples are visible in the moon light.
In a block print, the part of the image that is cut-away is not printed. Using a brayer, a smaller rubber roller, ink that has been spread on sheet of glass is transferred to the roller, which is then transfered to the surface of the linoleum. Once a sufficient amount of ink has been rolled onto the plate, a sheet of paper is placed on top, and then run through a press, with sufficient pressure to transfer the image to the paper. Repeating the process allows multiple prints to be made for a single plate.
